NORTH Cowie aims to breed plain bodied structurally correct sheep, carrying wools in the 18.5 to 21-micron range, making our clients’ surplus sheep in the sale yards extremely desirable.
“Our rams are bred to thrive in any climate and environments, from the pastoral areas of South Australia and New South Wales to the high rainfall areas of the South East and Kangaroo Island,” said principal Joe Murdoch.
“North Cowie puts an emphasis on the measurable traits that return our clients more dollars per hectare and still with ease of management in mind.
“At the 2023 ram sales, we sold 150 rams at auction with a sale average of $1704.
“Our top priced ram sold for $7000 to the Rice’s Creek Poll Merino stud.
“Since then, we have sold a further 50 rams privately and these were a mixture of private selection rams and younger spring drop rams.
“Our 2024 Poll rams are coming along nicely and include sons from Poll rams, Glenlea Park 979 & 0990, Collinsville Masterbuilt 252, which was purchased by Greenfields for $58,000, and North Cowie 200092, which is a son of Willandra 447 and sold for $51,000.
“Our Merino ram lambs are looking just as impressive and include progeny from White River 212-14, which we purchased for $23,000, and several retained home-grown sires.”
North Cowie will display rams at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo from July 19 to 21 and at the South East Field Days at Keith on July 24 and at the Royal Adelaide Show in September.
Joe, Lucy, Garry and Gwen Murdoch extended a warm welcome to all clients, past and future, visitors and friends to North Cowie’s 37th annual on-property ram sale on Wednesday July 31.
Inspections welcome from 10am, sale starts 1pm.
