JEANETTE Long has won the Ag Excellence Perpetual Award for Outstanding Service to Agriculture.

Mrs Long, originally from the Ardrossan region, has contributed to many agricultural organisations including the Australasian Pacific Extension Network, Ag Excellence and, most recently, Women Together Learning (WoTL).

WoTL executive officer Kim Blenkiron nominated Mrs Long for the award.

“Jeanette has impacted and positively influenced so many extension organisations and programs over her career that the flow-on impact to the farming community cannot be overstated,” she said.

As a sought-after facilitator, Mrs Long works with farmers and others involved in the industry throughout Australia and New Zealand.

She also provides mentoring support to many young professionals, ensuring South Australia continues to produce skilled people in agricultural research and other fields.

Ag Ex chair Leet Wilksch said it was an “absolute honour” to give Mrs Long the award.

“Ag Ex has been the recipient of Jeanette’s tireless efforts as chair and committee member for many years.

“She continues to give her time for the benefit of this room and the broader agricultural industry,” Mr Wilksch said.

Ag Innovation Research Eyre Peninsula won the coveted PIRSA Grower Group Award at the event, with the gala dinner held last week at the Marion Hotel in Adelaide.

The event included a forum with the theme “Future Farming — Turning Trends into Practice”.

Ag Ex is a not-for-profit organisation which was established in 2005 to provide support to the farming sector, including communication services and project management.
