YP trials challenge dogs and handlers

EXPERIENCED dogs came to the fore at the annual Yorke Peninsula Sheep Dog Trials, held at Maitland on September 19-21 and at Paskeville field day site on September 22-23.

Sheep at both venues proved to be a challenge for handlers and dogs. The sheep were kindly loaned by ED Brown, Richard Heinrich, and Malcolm and Kate Johnson.

Hypro Group was the major sponsor at both trials with good support from other local businesses also enabling a successful and enjoyable event.

Catering provided by the Maitland Show Society was excellent as usual and appreciated, and likewise for the hospitality provided by YP Working Sheepdog Club at Paskeville.

We had the privilege of hosting two Western Australian triallers, Ken Atherton and Frank Sutherland on their way home from the Australian Supreme Championship held in Geelong earlier in September.

Our next trial is the SA Working Sheepdog Association’s State Championship to be held at Crystal Brook on October 12-13.

Visitors are always welcome to attend trials.
